Police in Bauchi Arrest Man, 62, with Suspected Counterfeit Notes

A 62-year-old man, Tahir Ahmed, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police command for allegedly producing counterfeit naira notes.
 
SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, revealed in a statement that the suspect was apprehended on August 6, 2024, following a tip-off from a vigilant passenger on a commercial vehicle. 
 
The passenger claimed to have witnessed Ahmed converting ordinary paper into what appeared to be new one thousand naira notes using what seemed like ritualistic practices.
 
Upon reaching Bauchi metropolis, the passenger reported the incident to the police. When apprehended, Ahmed reportedly confessed to the crime.

The police have recovered a total of two hundred and thirty-eight thousand naira in suspected counterfeit notes. 
 
The counterfeit currency is currently undergoing forensic analysis by the Central Bank of Nigeria to confirm its authenticity.
 
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has commended the public for their cooperation with the police and urged them to remain vigilant in their communities.
