Police Inspector, Vigilantes Arrested for Alleged Assault in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers, Inspector Ibrahim Usman, attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jimeta, along with two members of a local vigilante group, Papa Andema and Lele Audu.

This is contained in a statement issued by SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa State Command, on Monday.

The arrests were made today, April 14th, 2025, following allegations of unprofessional conduct and incivility towards members of the public.

The swift action by the police command comes in response to a widely circulated video purportedly showing the officer and the vigilante members engaging in assault and unprofessional behaviour against a tricyclist. 

The Adamawa State Police Command stated that the alleged actions are a clear breach of the ethics and standard operational procedures expected of law enforcement personnel.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Adamawa State Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, affirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to accountability.

He assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted and that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against those found culpable, in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.

The prompt arrest of the individuals involved underscores the Adamawa State Police Command’s intention to address such allegations seriously and uphold public trust in the police.
