Yobe State Police Command is investigating a shocking incident of grave desecration and the removal of a corpse at the Makwalla area cemetery in Jakusko Town.
The discovery was reported to the police on November 13, 2025, by a local resident, Wakili Gambo.
A team of police officers from the Jakusko Division immediately visited the scene with community leaders, confirming that the grave had been opened and the body removed by unknown criminal elements.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Emmanuel Ado, PSC, FDC, strongly condemned the act.
CP Ado described the violation as “cannibalistic, diabolical, and a serious violation of human dignity and the sanctity of the dead,” warning that anyone found responsible “will face the full wrath of the law.”
The Police Command, speaking through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, MNIPR, stated that the investigation is currently ongoing.
The Command has also intensified checks on other graves within the cemetery to ensure no further desecration has occurred.
The police are urging the Jakusko community to implement better security measures to protect cemeteries and to cooperate by providing credible and timely information regarding any suspicious movements in or around burial grounds.
