Police Investigate Mob Killing, Vow Justice in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the fatal mob attack on a man identified as Peter, which occurred on April 9, 2025.

This is contained in a statement issued by CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Bauchi State Police Command, on Thursday.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described the incident as “barbaric and detrimental to our nation’s legal framework” and has pledged that “no stone will be left unturned” in the investigation.

According to the police, a group of youths attacked two men, Peter and Dokagk Danladi, 38, accusing them of dog theft in a secluded area behind Lushi.

Danladi sustained severe machete wounds and is currently receiving treatment at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi. Peter was found dead at the scene.

A team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has visited the crime scene to gather evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

CP Aliyu warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stating that the Command “will not condone any individuals taking the law into their own hands by inflicting harm on suspects arrested for alleged crimes in such an inhumane and unlawful manner.”

He emphasised that no one has the authority to mete out such brutal treatment and that suspects should be handed over to the police or other relevant law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner has urged the public to remain calm and assist the investigation by providing any relevant information.

The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
