Police Kill Notorious Kidnapper in Nasarawa, Recover Firearm

A notorious kidnapper, wanted for multiple offences, has been killed in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, during a joint security operation conducted by the police, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups.

The successful operation, which took place on March 14, 2025, at approximately 10 pm, marks a significant victory in the fight against crime in the region.

The suspect, identified as Abdullahi, also known as “Honour,” was intercepted near the Akwanga Central Mosque while riding a motorcycle.

He had been on the Nasarawa State Police Command’s wanted list for armed robbery and kidnapping.

“This individual was a menace to our community,” stated SP Nansel.

“He had terrorised residents for far too long, and we are pleased to have brought his criminal activities to an end.”

During the operation, the suspect attempted to evade arrest and was fatally shot by security operatives.

A search of his person resulted in the recovery of a Beretta pistol without a bridge number and twelve rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

“The recovery of these weapons is crucial,” SP Nansel emphasised. “It prevents them from being used in further criminal activities.”

One accomplice managed to escape with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

The deceased suspect’s body has been evacuated to Akwanga General Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the operatives for their “professional conduct and effective collaboration” during the operation.

He urged them to “maintain the momentum in the ongoing fight against criminal elements” in the state.

“We will not relent in our efforts to ensure the safety and security of the people of Nasarawa State,” CP Mohammed affirmed.

“We are sending a clear message to all criminals: desist from your nefarious activities or face decisive action.”

The Nasarawa State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, and has pledged to continue its collaborative efforts with other security agencies and local communities to combat crime effectively.
