Police Launch Probe into Alleged Forced Marriage Suicide in Gubio

The Borno State Police Command has begun an investigation into reports alleging that a young woman in the Gubio Local Government Area took her own life after being forced into marriage by her father.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, the command said a discreet investigation has been ordered to verify the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the viral report.

โ€œThe Commissioner of Police has directed a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the alleged incident,โ€ ASP Daso stated.

โ€œWe call on members of the public with credible and verifiable information to come forward and assist the police.โ€

The Command urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information, warning that doing so could cause unnecessary panic and emotional distress.

โ€œWe advise citizens to exercise caution and restraint in sharing sensitive content. The spread of false or misleading information is punishable under the Cybercrimes Act of 2015,โ€ the statement added.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of all citizens while ensuring that justice and truth prevail.
