The Borno State Police Command has begun an investigation into reports alleging that a young woman in the Gubio Local Government Area took her own life after being forced into marriage by her father.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, the command said a discreet investigation has been ordered to verify the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the viral report.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the alleged incident,” ASP Daso stated.
“We call on members of the public with credible and verifiable information to come forward and assist the police.”
The Command urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information, warning that doing so could cause unnecessary panic and emotional distress.
“We advise citizens to exercise caution and restraint in sharing sensitive content. The spread of false or misleading information is punishable under the Cybercrimes Act of 2015,” the statement added.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of all citizens while ensuring that justice and truth prevail.
