Police operatives in Keffi, Nasarawa State, have apprehended a suspected fake soldier and armed robber following an intelligence-led surveillance operation.
The suspect, identified as Godswill Achili, was arrested while dressed in military camouflage.
According to a police press release issued on March 2, 2025, Achili confessed to impersonating a soldier and engaging in armed robbery.
Further investigations revealed that he is a member of a criminal syndicate operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.
“The syndicate operates while wearing full military uniforms, using a black, unregistered Toyota Avalon,” stated SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command.
“They target unsuspecting members of the public, particularly youths and students travelling between Keffi, New Karu, and the FCT.”
The syndicate’s modus operandi involves luring victims into their vehicle under false pretences before robbing them of valuables, including money and mobile phones.
“Investigations have also revealed that at least two other members of the syndicate remain at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend them,” SP Nansel added.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
“We encourage the public to be observant and report any information that could help us curb criminal activities in the state,” CP Mohammed said.
The Nasarawa State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and called for continued cooperation from the public in combating crime.
