The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday trained Borno-based working journalists on explosive device detonation awareness.
The one-day workshop organised by the Borno State Command of the NPF was held at the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training School in Maiduguri.
Speaking during the training session, the spokesperson of the command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the workshop is aimed at sensitising media professionals on the risks associated with explosives and enhancing their capacity to report on such incidents accurately and safely.
Daso emphasised the critical role of journalists in disseminating accurate information about explosive threats.
He also highlighted the importance of equipping reporters with the necessary knowledge to ensure public awareness and safety.
Also speaking, the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, Superintendent James Taโasah, described the training as timely, given the security challenges in the region.
He noted that educating journalists on how to responsibly report on IED-related incidents would contribute to public safety and counterinsurgency efforts.
Participants at the training commended the Borno State Police Command for organising the session, describing it as insightful and crucial for their work.
They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their understanding of explosive-related threats and pledged to apply the knowledge gained in their reportage.
