Presidency Denounces Premature 2027 Campaign Billboards

The presidency has issued a strong statement disclaiming the proliferation of 2027 campaign billboards promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, which have been observed in various cities nationwide, including Abuja and Kano.

In a press release issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), the Presidency expressed dismay at the premature campaign activities.

Notably, some billboards feature images of President Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

While acknowledging and appreciating the support of their loyal followers across the country, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima emphasised their commitment to upholding the laws of the land.

The statement highlighted that current electoral laws prohibit any form of campaigning for the 2027 general elections until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially sets the timetable.

“Premature campaigning can undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages,” the statement read.

“As law-abiding leaders, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima do not support any action that undermines our institutions and the electoral process.”

The presidency clarified that President Tinubu has not endorsed or authorised any individual or group to initiate a 2027 campaign on his behalf through any media channel, including billboards, print, digital, radio, or television, until INEC officially announces the commencement of the election cycle.

“Therefore, we urgently call on individuals and groups funding this 2027 political campaign through the ongoing deployment of materials on billboards nationwide to cease immediately,” Onanuga stated.

The statement reiterated that President Tinubu and his deputy are currently focused on delivering their mandate of nation-building, with a strong emphasis on economic revitalisation, human capital development, infrastructural renewal, social investment, and national security.

The presidency concluded by stating that President Tinubu will duly inform Nigerians of his plans for the 2027 elections when INEC officially signals the commencement of the electoral process.
