Protest: Borno State Gov’t To Check Unaccompanied Children Flooding Maiduguri

The Borno State Government has announced measures to monitor and control the influx of unaccompanied children into Maiduguri, following a surge in their numbers amidst ongoing national protests.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security Professor Usman Tar, the state government has resolved to ensure that only children with identified parentage and destination are allowed into the city.

This decision was reached during an extraordinary security meeting held at the Government House, Maiduguri, on August 5, 2024.

The meeting reviewed the security situation in Borno State and resolved to enhance information and intelligence gathering, speedy prosecution of arrested suspects, and establishment of a juvenile justice system.

Other resolutions include allowing farmers to access their farmlands, vigorous community engagement, social media engagement, and re-establishment of a situation room and command center to coordinate security efforts.

The government has pledged to support security agencies in their lawful duties and thanked them for their efforts in maintaining law and order.
