Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, directed the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to deliver food items to the three custodial centers in the state on May 8th, 2024.
The centers in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru received rice and assorted grains.
Dr. Goje Mohammed FRSPH, Executive Secretary of SEMA, explained that this initiative is part of the Governor’s ongoing efforts to alleviate hardship during the lean season and address inflation concerns. He highlighted a recent meeting between Governor Buni and the leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Yobe, where the Governor pledged continued support for the NCS’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reforms implemented by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Dr. Mohammed further stated that the food items will be divided into two portions. One part will be used to prepare meals for inmates, while the other will be distributed among correctional service staff.
The leadership of the custodial centers expressed their appreciation to the Yobe State Government for supporting both the inmates and staff.
