Senate Screens 38 Federal Character Commission’s Chairman, Other Nominees

The Nigerian Senate commenced the screening of 38 nominees for the Federal Character Commission (FCC), including Mrs Ayo Omidiran (Osun State), who is nominated to serve as Chairman, on Friday, November 14, 2025. 

The exercise, handled by the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, is a crucial step toward filling the Commissionโ€™s top leadership positions.

Lawmakers immediately charged the appointees to strictly uphold national balancing principles during their tenure.

The Committee Chairman, Senator Allwell Onyeosoh, specifically urged the nominees to champion the bodyโ€™s core mandate, emphasising the need for equitable governance.

โ€œYou must champion federal character principles and bring balance to Nigeriaโ€™s diverse nation,โ€ Senator Onyeosoh stated.

To ensure due diligence, the committee is scrutinising the nomineesโ€™ security clearances and verifying their asset declarations before advancing the appointments for final Senate approval.

The Commission is responsible for ensuring fairness and equity in federal appointments and resource distribution.
