The Shehu of Dikwa, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Ibn Umar El-kanemi, has urged the federal government to extend the ongoing reconstruction of the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Ngala Road to Kala-Balge, emphasising its critical importance for the region’s development.
Speaking on Sunday during his official inauguration, where he received the staff of office from Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Shehu highlighted the challenges faced by the people of Kala-Balge due to poor road infrastructure.
He noted that Kala-Balge remains the only Local Government Area in Borno State whose headquarters is forced to relocate during the rainy season due to impassable roads.
According to him, this seasonal displacement disrupts residents’ daily lives, hinders economic activities, and limits access to essential services.
The traditional ruler expressed his gratitude to the state government for upholding cultural and traditional processes in his appointment and pledged to support initiatives that enhance the well-being of the people.
He commended Governor Zulum’s commitment to development, particularly in resettling displaced communities such as Logumani and Gajibo and providing them with essential social services.
In response, Governor Zulum reassured the people of Borno that his administration remains committed to restoring normalcy and improving infrastructure across the state.
He acknowledged the resilience of the people and security forces in combating insurgency and promised to collaborate with Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima and the National Assembly ensure the rehabilitation of the Maiduguri-Dikwa Road and the restoration of electricity to Dikwa town within the next month.
