Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara.
The information was disclosed in a statement issued on 7 December 2025 by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of the Vice President.
Nkwocha said the vice president will join other African leaders and global dignitaries at the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Monday, 8 December 2025, at the Presidential Palace.
“Nigeria remains committed to strengthening democratic governance and deepening regional cooperation,” Nkwocha stated.
Ouattara was re-elected on 25 October 2025, extending his leadership of a country that maintains strong diplomatic, economic and security ties with Nigeria through ECOWAS, the African Union and multiple bilateral agreements.
Shettima was received at the Abidjan airport by Prime Minister Robert Mambe, Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires Mrs Item Akpama, and other senior officials. He is expected to return to Abuja after the ceremony.
