Security operatives at the Borno Express Terminal in Maiduguri intercepted a soldier allegedly attempting to transport a cache of ammunition to an undisclosed location.
The soldier identified as Nathaniel Jeremiah, was arrested by personnel of the 7 Division at the Borno Express Terminal Park in Maiduguri for illegal possession of ammunition.
The arrest of the off-duty soldier, confirmed by a counterinsurgency expert in the Lake Chad region Zagazola Makama, has raised serious concerns about internal security breaches within the armed forces.
According to Makama, the soldier’s suspicious behaviour prompted a routine check by terminal security.
The subsequent search revealed concealed ammunition, triggering an immediate alert to law enforcement authorities.
“During the routine search, security operatives discovered 89 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed in his personal bag.” Makama said
While investigations are ongoing, sources suggest the suspect may have connections to illicit arms networks.
“The authorities have vowed to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the full extent of this disturbing development,” stated a security source..
