The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Leopards of DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers Africa playoffs final in Morocco on Sunday.
DR Congo advanced to the final after defeating Cameroon 1-0 in Rabat.
Captain Chancel Mbemba scored the match’s only goal in the first minute of stoppage time, converting a corner kick.
The loss eliminates Cameroon, holders of the African record for World Cup appearances, from the 2026 tournament.
Nigeria secured its final spot by defeating Gabon 4-1 after extra time.
Akor Adams gave the Super Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute, but Gabon’s Mario Lemina forced extra time with a deflected shot just before the final whistle.
Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in extra time, followed by a brace from Victor Osimhen to seal the victory.
The winner of Sunday’s final will progress to a six-team intercontinental qualifier in Mexico by March 2026, which will determine the final two nations for the World Cup.
