The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that five officers were killed and two others injured in an ambush by suspected Fulani youths in Sabon Sara village, Darazo LGA.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, 23 November 2025, by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, who described the attack as “tragic and deeply regrettable”.
According to Wakil, the officers were on an intelligence-led visibility patrol on 22 November when they were ambushed at about 11:30 a.m.
“Our personnel acted professionally and neutralised a number of the attackers during the gun duel,” he said.
He added that the patrol team comprised operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, 10 PMF, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the State Intelligence Department.
The statement listed the deceased officers as DSP Ahmad Muhammad, ASP Mustapha Muhammad, Inspector Amarhel Yunusa, Inspector Idris Ahmed, and Corporal Isah Muazu.
Two others, Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo, sustained injuries.
Wakil said the Divisional Police Officer in Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, led reinforcements to the scene and evacuated the injured and deceased to the General Hospital in Darazo.
“Intense efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators,” he added.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the scene and met with families of the fallen officers.
“We will remain fierce, tireless, and relentless in securing lives and property,” he said, assuring residents that the Command would bring the attackers to justice.
