In a move to strengthen the independence of local governments, the Taraba State Government on Monday inaugurated the Local Government Autonomy Advisory Committee.

This action follows a recent Supreme Court judgement affirming financial autonomy for local councils across Nigeria.

The committee will provide oversight for the implementation of this judgement, advise on administrative reforms, support security coordination, and facilitate engagement with communities.

“The establishment of this advisory committee demonstrates our unwavering commitment to empowering local governments in Taraba State,” said Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas during the inauguration ceremony.

The Governor emphasized the importance of this initiative for grassroots development. “We will ensure the independence of local governments while working together to deliver the benefits of democracy to the people,” he concluded.

The committee’s diverse responsibilities highlight the Taraba State Government’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to local government autonomy.
