Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has pledged sweeping reforms in the stateโs agricultural sector after receiving a comprehensive report from the Taraba State Agriculture and Food Sustainability Committee.
The report, presented on Thursday, February 27, 2025, outlined key strategies for boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.
The committee, established by Governor Kefas in the preceding year, was tasked with assessing the state’s agricultural landscape and proposing sustainable solutions.
His Royal Highness, the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida, who chaired the committee, presented the report to the governor.
“We have stressed the urgent need to adopt innovative farming practices,” the Emir of Muri stated during the presentation.
“This is crucial to enhance agricultural output and ensure our people have access to adequate food supplies.”
Governor Kefas, in his response, expressed his commitment to implementing the committee’s recommendations.
He announced the immediate transition of the committee into an implementation team, charged with the responsibility of executing the proposed strategies.
“This report is not just a document; it is a blueprint for the future of agriculture in Taraba State,” Governor Kefas declared.
“We will not allow it to gather dust. Therefore, this committee will now become an implementation team, and I expect a detailed budget and action plan within the next two weeks.”
The governor emphasised that the report would serve as a strategic guide for revitalising the agricultural sector, incorporating modern innovations and technology to improve farming practices and ensure sustainable food production.
“We are determined to transform our agricultural sector,” Governor Kefas affirmed.
“By embracing modern techniques and technology, we will empower our farmers, increase productivity, and guarantee food security for all Tarabans. This report will be the bedrock of our efforts.”
The governorโs swift action in converting the committee into an implementation team underscores the urgency and importance he places on agricultural development in the state, a move welcomed by many stakeholders within the agricultural community.
