Taraba Police Rescue Foreign National as Kidnappers Flee After Gun Duel

A joint operation by the Taraba State Police Command, the military, and local hunters has resulted in rescue of an Israeli national, Gil Itamar, who was kidnapped by armed criminals on April 3, 2025.

According to a police statement, ASP James Lashen Saminu, acting Police Public Relations Officer, and Itamar, an employee of the SCC company, were abducted on April 3rd at Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi road while under military escort.

Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum division mobilised his men, alongside personnel from the 67 Police Mobile Force (PMF), the military, and local hunters, to the scene.

A coordinated search and rescue operation led to a “fierce gun duel” at Kofai Ahmadu, where the kidnappers were forced to retreat and flee, abandoning their captive.

Itamar is currently undergoing medical checks at the SCC company’s medical facility in Takum.

“Radar is being placed on the fleeing criminals with intent to bring them to book,” stated ASP James Lashen Saminu, acting Police Public Relations Officer.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bretet Emmanuel Simon, commended the “gallant officers” involved in the operation and assured the public of the command’s commitment to the safety and security of Taraba State residents. He issued a warning to criminal elements, stating,

“He further advised criminal elements to relocate, as the command will make Taraba very unconducive for their hibernation.”
