Team Borno has arrived safely in Damaturu, Yobe State, for the North East Zonal Team sports eliminations.

Borno State, under the leadership of Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has seen significant progress in youth engagement and sports development thanks to the efforts of the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Youths, Sports, and Empowerment, Comrade Saina Buba.

This is evidenced by Team Borno having the highest number of athletes participating in the zonal competition.

The competition will be held at various sports grounds in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Team Borno is competing in all the zonal qualifying events, including football, basketball (male and female), volleyball (male), basketball (male and female), hockey (male), and beach volleyball (male and female).

The teams are led by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Borno State Sports Council, Hajiya Amina Magga, along with top officials from the council.

All participating athletes received brand new playing equipment, including jerseys, socks, and other necessary materials.

Several athletes expressed their gratitude to Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for his support of youth and sporting activities in Borno State.

It’s worth remembering that through the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Governor Zulum has supported the Presidential Champions El-kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri, upgraded the Media and Press Center, and installed a modern scoreboard, among other things.

The zonal eliminations will last for three days, from Monday to Wednesday. The qualified teams will then compete in the National Festival in Ogun State, Abeokuta, in May 2025.

Since Governor Zulum assumed office, Team Borno has consistently participated in national competitions and won numerous medals for the state, demonstrating his commitment to sports and youth development.
