The Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has commissioned a new transit camp at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri to improve the welfare and operational efficiency of troops involved in counterinsurgency operations.
The facility was inaugurated on Thursday by Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who described it as โa significant milestone in the collective efforts to enhance operational efficiency, bolster troops’ welfare, and sustain momentum in the fight against insurgency.โ
โThis initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy and reflects our commitment to providing decent, functional, and secure accommodation for our troops,โ said Abubakar.
โSuch infrastructure will improve command and control, ease logistics, and ensure timely administration during deployments.โ
According to a press release issued by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations at Theatre Command Headquarters, the new camp offers a secure and dignified holding point for troops on administrative movements and outpatient duty.

General Abubakar commended the Sector Commander for conceptualising and executing the project.
โTo our gallant troops, you are the real heroes of our time. Let this facility remind you that your sacrifices are valued. Stay vigilant, stay preparedโwe must consolidate our gains and secure lasting peace in the Northeast.โ
Commander of Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF, Brigadier General Suleiman Tilawan, acknowledged the support of the Theatre Commander, noting that his leadership and financial backing were instrumental to the projectโs completion.
Facilities commissioned include the Warrant Officers and Sergeants’ Transit Camp, named after Maj. Gen. A.A. Nani, and a Corporals and Below Transit Camp, named after Maj. Gen. S.O. Olabanji.
The event concluded with a facility tour and a group photograph with senior military commanders and personnel.
