In a swift operation, Nigerian troops and local hunters thwarted a Boko Haram attack aimed at disrupting the power supply in Damaturu, Borno State.
Acting on intelligence, troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade of Operation Hadin Kai set up an ambush near Kasesa village on the outskirts of the city on July 6, 2024.
The insurgents, traveling in a Toyota Corolla, were planning to detonate explosives near high-tension electricity pylons.
A firefight erupted as troops and hunters approached the targeted area. The terrorists fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle which contained eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and a trade identification card. Bloodstains on the vehicle suggest the insurgents may have sustained injuries during the confrontation.
“This successful operation is a testament to the intensified intelligence efforts of Operation Hadin Kai,” a security analyst Zagazola Makama stated. “The recovered IEDs could have caused significant damage to critical infrastructure and plunged many into darkness.”
No further contact with the terrorists was made during a subsequent search. The seized items are now in the custody of the 27 Task Force Brigade for further investigation.
