Troops of the 3rd Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have killed two kidnappers and rescued two abducted civilians during a counter-kidnapping operation in the Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, who confirmed the operation in a statement on October 23, 2025, the troops acted on credible intelligence after the abduction of two victims โ Muhammadu Sani and Ibrahim Manman โ along the Wanka-Dengi road.

โThe troops cordoned off the criminalsโ general area and made contact with them at the outskirts of Tunga village,โ Zhakom said.
โDuring the ensuing firefight, two of the kidnappers were neutralised while others escaped with gunshot wounds.โ
He added that troops recovered a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated rifle, eight cartridges, and other items from the hideout, while the rescued victims have been safely reunited with their families after security checks.
Zhakom reaffirmed the armyโs commitment to safeguarding residents, saying, โOperation Enduring Peace will continue to deny non-state actors freedom of action and protect law-abiding citizens across the Joint Operations Area.โ
