Troops Kill 2 Kidnappers, Rescue Victims in Plateau Operation

Troops of the 3rd Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have killed two kidnappers and rescued two abducted civilians during a counter-kidnapping operation in the Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, who confirmed the operation in a statement on October 23, 2025, the troops acted on credible intelligence after the abduction of two victims โ€” Muhammadu Sani and Ibrahim Manman โ€” along the Wanka-Dengi road.

โ€œThe troops cordoned off the criminalsโ€™ general area and made contact with them at the outskirts of Tunga village,โ€ Zhakom said. 

โ€œDuring the ensuing firefight, two of the kidnappers were neutralised while others escaped with gunshot wounds.โ€

He added that troops recovered a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated rifle, eight cartridges, and other items from the hideout, while the rescued victims have been safely reunited with their families after security checks.

Zhakom reaffirmed the armyโ€™s commitment to safeguarding residents, saying, โ€œOperation Enduring Peace will continue to deny non-state actors freedom of action and protect law-abiding citizens across the Joint Operations Area.โ€
