Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, on Tuesday in Abuja assumed office as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a firm declaration that the party “will never die” despite internal crises and recent expulsions.
Turaki took over from the outgoing acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, during an enlarged National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at the PDP national secretariat.
Speaking shortly after the handover, the new chairman said the party had begun a decisive era of discipline and repositioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The PDP will never die. This party is bigger than any individual or group of individuals,” Turaki said.
“Those who have chosen to dine with our opponents while still wearing our colours have been shown the way out. This is the beginning of a disciplined, united, and purposeful opposition that will rescue Nigeria in 2027.”
Damagum, in his farewell remarks, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and pledged continued support for reforms under the new leadership.
In a separate development, the NWC issued Certificates of Expulsion to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and several others over what the party described as persistent, “gross anti-party activities”.
The expulsions—ratified on November 16, 2025, at the PDP National Convention in Ibadan—were carried out under Article 59(3) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).

Those expelled include:
- Nyesom Ezenwo Wike
- Samuel Anyanwu
- Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN
- Umar Bature
- Abdulrahman Mohammed
- Ayodele Fayose
- George Turner
- Austine Nwachukwu
- Abraham Amah
The party noted that the expulsions are “final and irrevocable”.
Turaki outlined immediate priorities for the PDP under his leadership, including reconciliation among loyal members, strict enforcement of discipline, rebuilding structures across the federation, and presenting a united front against the APC.
“The PDP is alive, strong, and marching to victory in 2027. No amount of money, blackmail, or intimidation will stop us,” he said.
