The Union of European Football Associations UEFA has fined Kylian Mbappe and two other Real Madrid players for “violating basic rules of decent conduct” following their Champions League last-16 second-leg victory over Atletico Madrid on March 12.
French forward Kylian Mbappe received a 30,000-euro ($33,000) fine, while German defender Antonio Rudiger was fined 40,000 euros, and midfielder Dani Ceballos was penalised 20,000 euros.
Despite an initial investigation into four players, Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior was not fined.
Mbappe and Rudiger also received suspended one-match bans for European competition, which will not affect their participation in the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal.
UEFA did not elaborate on the specific violations but cited a breach of Article 11 of its disciplinary code, which pertains to “decent conduct”.
The infractions reportedly occurred after Real Madrid’s penalty shootout win over Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium, securing their quarter-final berth.
Reports indicate that the Real Madrid players’ post-match celebrations provoked Atletico Madrid fans.
