WHO-Built Hospital Wing Commissioned in Biu, Borno State

The healthcare landscape in Biu received a significant boost with the commissioning of the newly constructed Phase 2 of the General Hospital Biu. 

Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, officially opened the state-of-the-art facility, built and equipped by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The commissioning underscores the Borno State administration’s continued commitment to enhancing the well-being of its populace through improved healthcare infrastructure.

Representing the Deputy Governor, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Professor Baba Malam Gana, inaugurated the hospital wing, conveying the government’s satisfaction with this crucial development.

Professor Gana highlighted Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s “visionary leadership” in prioritising the health sector, stating that this modern hospital stands as a “testament to that commitment”. 

The newly commissioned phase, equipped with modern medical amenities, addresses the growing need for expanded healthcare services in Biu due to population increase.

The Emir of Biu, HRH Alhaji Mustapha Aliyu Umar Mustapha II, through his representative, the Birma of Biu, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Birma, expressed his delight at this development. 

He noted that this marks the third significant hospital project in Biu within the year, following the recent commissioning of eye and dental hospitals by Governor Zulum.

The WHO’s Country Representative to Nigeria, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, commended the Borno State Government’s proactive approach and pledged the organisation’s continued support. 

Professor Baba Mallam Gana expressed deep appreciation to the WHO for their invaluable partnership, assuring them that the new infrastructure would be “judiciously utilised” to strengthen healthcare services in Biu and its surrounding areas.

Similar healthcare infrastructure upgrades are also in the pipeline for Monguno, demonstrating the government’s dedication to extending quality healthcare access across the state with the ongoing support of the WHO.

The Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Arc Isa Halidu Garba, expressed satisfaction with the project’s quality and announced the imminent commencement of Phase One in Biu and the Monguno project.
