Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the employment of 267 health technicians to address manpower shortages in the state’s healthcare facilities.
The announcement was made in a statement by Mamman Mohammed, DG Press and Media Affairs, to the Governor on Sunday, a step towards strengthening healthcare provision across Yobe.

The approved employment includes 140 “Buni Scholars,” recent graduates from medical science programs in India. These scholars, who have completed studies in fields such as nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory science, and radiology, will be integrated into the state’s healthcare system.
“This initiative demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to investing in the future of healthcare in Yobe State,” a government spokesperson stated.
In addition to the Buni Scholars, Governor Buni has also approved the employment of 127 health technicians who have been serving as volunteers in various health institutions across the state.
“These individuals have been providing invaluable service, and we are pleased to formalise their employment,” the spokesperson added.
The Buni Scholars have been placed on CONHESS 8, while the volunteer technicians have been placed on CONHESS 6/2.
The Buni administration has consistently provided automatic employment to graduates of the state-owned Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery over the past five years, reflecting its ongoing efforts to improve healthcare personnel.
“The Governor’s administration has prioritised healthcare delivery,” a government official commented, citing the establishment of primary healthcare centres in all political wards and the upgrade of general hospitals to specialist hospitals.
The state teaching hospital has also been equipped with modern facilities to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare.
“These measures are aimed at bringing quality healthcare to the doorstep of every Yobe citizen,” the official concluded.
