The Yobe State Government has debunked a widely circulated report on social media alleging an imminent movement of Boko Haram insurgents towards Damaturu, the state capital.

In a press statement issued by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the government described the report as false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief makers.

Titled “Immediate Security Alert”, the purported intelligence report, which has been making rounds online, claimed that Boko Haram fighters were advancing towards Damaturu — a claim the government says has no basis in fact.

“The information did not emanate from the Office of the Special Adviser. It is fake and should be disregarded in its entirety,” General Abdulsalam said in the statement.

He urged members of the public, especially residents of Damaturu, to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear.

He reassured the public that security agencies are on top of the situation and continue to maintain surveillance to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the state.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security while warning against the spread of fake news capable of causing unnecessary panic among citizens.
