In a move aimed at facilitating the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs), Yobe State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and security agencies, conducted a joint security assessment of Mallum-Dunari communities in Gujba Local Government Area.
The initiative, led by the Yobe State Security Adviser, Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd.), is intended to pave the way for the development of areas most affected by protracted displacement due to conflict.
The assessment, commissioned by Governor Mai Mala Buni, involved engaging local leaders, identifying existing challenges, evaluating current security measures, and exploring areas for improvement.
This collaboration underscores the commitment of Yobe State, security agencies, and the UNDP to establishing a safe and conducive environment for sustainable development in the affected areas.
Governor Buni, upon receiving a briefing from UNDP Northeast Head of Office, Mr. Moncef Kartas, reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to ensuring lasting peace and stability for displaced communities.
He emphasized the assessment’s importance in guiding effective interventions and expressed gratitude to the UNDP and security agencies for their ongoing support.
Mr. Moncef, the UNDP Northeast Representative, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to assisting Yobe State in its recovery and development endeavors.
He emphasized that security is essential for achieving sustainable development and pledged the UNDP’s close collaboration with the state government and security agencies to implement solutions for displaced populations.
The Yobe State team for the mission was led by the Security Adviser, Gen. Abdussalam (rtd.), Dr. Goje Mohammed, Executive Secretary of SEMA, and Suleiman Dauda, Solid Coordinator, among others.
