The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has commenced the distribution of cash stimulus to flood victims in the state.
The distribution began on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and saw 100 beneficiaries receive N30,000 each at their doorsteps.
The cash stimulus is part of the flood response and recovery efforts of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration.
Earlier, the governor had approved cash disbursements of N50,000, N30,000, and N20,000 to registered victims in Nguru, Karasuwa, and Bade, respectively.
SEMA, in collaboration with Think-Lab Group, distributed the cash to flood victims in Dikumari, Ganyen Kura, and Nayinawa Bukka Bakwai communities of Damaturu Local Government Area.
Think-Lab Group, through its charity foundation, contributed N3,000,000 to support the 100 flood victims.
The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Goje, presented the cash to the victims and cautioned them to be careful, stating that no one should collect any money from them.
He also urged them to report any cases of fraud to community leaders or security agencies.
Dr. Goje called on communities to take precautions, noting that while the response efforts come with challenges, it is safer to take precautions.
The agency will continue to respond to affected communities based on need, resource availability, and vulnerability.
