The Yobe State Government is set to adopt Moroccan livestock farming technology to boost livestock production in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, DG Press and Media Affairs, to the Governor.
According to the statement, a delegation from Yobe State, led by Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, visited Maroc Lait, a leading Moroccan livestock farm, to explore opportunities for technology transfer and knowledge exchange.
“As a leading state in livestock production, Yobe State is willing to explore every available opportunity to support existing livestock farmers and create new livestock farmers,” Mr. Wali stated.
Mohammed Raita, Director General of Maroc Lait, emphasised the importance of effective management, genetics, feeds, water, and veterinary services for successful livestock development.
“We have developed a fodder laboratory for the production of fodder seeds to provide healthy and nutritious feeds to the cows to produce more dairy and beef,” Mr. Raita explained.
“You should introduce artificial insemination to crossbreed with the local variety to improve your breed and improve beef and dairy production in the state.”
He assured the Yobe State delegation that Maroc Lait would provide cost-effective services to individual livestock farmers, cooperative organisations, and the state government.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mustapha Goniri, highlighted the state government’s commitment to investing in livestock development to create employment and generate wealth.
“We want to improve dairy production from the three litres produced daily by the local breed to at least 30 litres daily per cow using the improved breed and improving the capacity of the existing livestock,” Mr. Goniri said.
He emphasised that the state government has already implemented measures such as establishing grazing reserves, providing water points, and improving veterinary services to support livestock farmers.
