Yobe State held a validation workshop to finalise its draft policy on internally displaced persons (IDPs).
This policy aims to effectively address the challenges faced by IDPs within the state and establish a clear roadmap for achieving durable solutions.
The workshop, building on an earlier initiative in April 2024, brought together government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, and representatives of IDPs and host communities.
This inclusive approach ensured a comprehensive policy framework that incorporated diverse perspectives and expertise.
Participants actively engaged in discussions, providing valuable feedback on the draft policy. The focus was on identifying key action points and strategies to best support IDPs in Yobe State.
Following the workshop, the state government, in collaboration with project partners, will compile and integrate all feedback received. The finalised document will then undergo review before seeking official approval.
“The domestication of the national policy on IDPs by Yobe State is a crucial step towards fostering collaboration and achieving durable solutions for IDPs,” said a state representative. “By harnessing collective expertise, we can create a better future for both IDPs and host communities.”
This policy development process underscores Yobe State’s commitment to addressing the needs of displaced persons within its borders.
Through continuous collaboration among stakeholders, the state aims to ensure the successful implementation of the IDP policy and improve the well-being of all those affected by displacement.
