Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate disbursement of ₦365.1 million in direct cash transfers to clubs and community associations across Maiduguri and its environs as part of his administration’s ongoing grassroots empowerment drive.
The Commissioner for Youth Empowerment, Sports, and Poverty Alleviation, Comrade Saina Buba, announced the initiative on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
He stated that the funds would be released within 24 hours under the supervision of the Borno State Social Investment Management Program (BO-SIMP).
“Governor Zulum mandated the release of this ₦365 million within 24 hours,” Buba said.
“This builds on the over ₦6 billion already disbursed in the last six years to empower small businesses and vulnerable groups.”
He explained that elders will receive ₦100,000 each, while youth beneficiaries will get ₦50,000 per cycle, alongside additional stipends for group leaders and festive support packages.
Buba urged recipients to invest the money wisely, describing the initiative as a “two-way approach to governance” that strengthens trust between citizens and government.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for what they called “a lifeline for community development”, pledging to use the funds for sustainable income-generating ventures.
