Zulum, Emir Urge Unity & Development at Menwara Festival in Shani

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has called for unity and inclusive development during the 2025 Menwara Cultural Festival held on Saturday in Shani.

The message was delivered by his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur, according to an official statement issued the same day.

Kadafur described the festival as “a living testimony of who we are as people with identity and resilience.”

He commended the Emir of Shani, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Nasiru Mailafiya, for preserving cultural heritage and promoting harmony across the emirate.

Zulum said cultural institutions play key roles in peacebuilding and social cohesion, noting that the government recognizes them as partners.

He urged the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism and UNESCO to explore the festival’s tourism value to boost economic opportunities.

The governor reassured residents of continued investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and livelihoods across the state.

Emir Mailafiya thanked participants and said the festival promotes unity and gratitude for a successful farming season.

He appreciated the state government’s projects in Shani, saying, “Our communities are feeling the impact in schools, health centers, and youth empowerment.”

The Emir appealed for support in upgrading the Shani Jumma’at Mosque, expanding River Hawul to curb flooding, and improving access roads.
