Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has rewarded El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club with a substantial sum of N35.2 million for their impressive performance in the 2024 President Federation Cup.
The team’s 2-0 victory over the Abia Warriors in the final marked the end of a 32-year drought for the trophy in Borno State.
In recognition of their achievement, each player on the victorious team received a N1 million stipend.
The money was presented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, on behalf of the governor at the Musa Usman Secretariat, Maiduguri.
In addition to the state government’s generous gift, the club was also awarded a N50 million cash prize for their triumph.
The Commissioner of Sports, Comrade Sainna Buba, expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for the support and recommended Babagana Kalli for the position of Special Adviser on Sports.
El-Kanemi Warriors’ Technical Adviser, Aliyu Zubairu, commended the state government’s efforts in promoting sports development but appealed for the timely release of funds to facilitate the team’s travel commitments.
The victory has been met with jubilation in Borno State, and the government’s reward is seen as a significant boost to sports in the region.
