El-Kanemi Warriors Edge Warri Wolves 1-0 in Maiduguri

El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over visiting Warri Wolves of Delta State on Sunday in a Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

The clash which took place at the El-Kanemi Warriors Sports Centre in Maiduguri drew a large crowd of supporters from across Borno State.

The only goal of the game came in the 18th minute.

Following a swift combination play, a Mukhtar Ismail header found Salisu Ibrahim, who slotted the ball into the net to give the home side the lead.

El-Kanemi Warriors dominated possession throughout the first half, though the match became more balanced in the second half with both teams creating scoring chances.

The home team was forced to make an early substitution when Muritala Dagbo left the game due to an injury, with Abdul Aziz Yusuf coming on.

“It was a difficult match, but the team showed great character and a will to win,” a source close to the team said.

“We knew we had to capitalise on our chances, and thatโ€™s exactly what we did.”

The victory is a crucial one for El-Kanemi Warriors as they continue their campaign in the top flight of Nigerian football.
