Governor Yusuf Recruits 4,315 Teachers, Expands Education Reforms in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has recruited 4,315 former BESDA volunteer teachers into permanent and pensionable service.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The appointment letters were presented at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, where Yusuf urged the new teachers to uphold โ€œdedication, integrity, and character-buildingโ€ in their pupils.

The governor said the move builds on previous approvals of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025, all absorbed from the BESDA scheme. 

โ€œThese recruitments underscore our consistent commitment to rescuing and reforming Kanoโ€™s education sector,โ€ Yusuf said.

To further strengthen schools, Yusuf announced the recruitment of 2,616 more teachers, a โ‚ฆ200 million vehicle loan scheme, and the distribution of 444 motorcycles and 300 computers for monitoring and evaluation.

He also directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School, the upgrading of a school in Ungogo to a boarding facility, and the engagement of 17,000 watchmen across schools.

Yusuf highlighted Kanoโ€™s recent success, noting its top performance in the 2025 NECO examination as proof that reforms are working.
