The Nigerian Air Force and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to smarter firepower delivery and stronger civilian protection in counter-terrorism operations.
The pledge was made Tuesday when a U.S. delegation from the Institute of Security Governance, led by retired Maj. Gen. Miguel Castellanos, visited the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, in Abuja.
Abubakar said the U.S.-backed Air-to-Ground Integration programme has improved the Air Forceโs precision targeting.
โThe programme has sharpened our capacity to deliver firepower with precision and restraint,โ he said.
Castellanos praised Nigeriaโs leadership in embedding civilian harm mitigation into military operations.
โWhat we are developing together is more than operational capability. It is a system that ensures effectiveness whilst protecting civilian populations,โ he said.
Both sides agreed that the programmeโs goal is to institutionalise enduring processes across Nigeriaโs armed forces, strengthening inter-agency collaboration and civilian protection.
