The Nigerian Army says its troops have intensified counterterrorism operations nationwide, seizing a massive cache of light machine gun ammunition in Zamfara State.
The disclosure was made in a statement on Sunday by Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.
He said troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team, 6 Division, in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara, neutralised a terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines with 29 rounds, and a motorcycle.
โThe troops are sustaining aggressive operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect communities,โ Nwachukwu stated.
In Kebbi State, troops of 1 Battalion (Rear) repelled coordinated attacks on five communities in Ngaski LGA, recovering over 700 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, three motorcycles, and communication gadgets, while rescuing one kidnapped victim.
Similar successes were recorded in Borno and Yobe States, where troops foiled ISWAP assaults, neutralised four terrorists, and recovered weapons and logistics supplies.
The army also reported joint operations with the Niger Air Force to disrupt terrorist movements around Lake Chad, while troops in Monguno arrested 13 suspects linked to terrorist logistics networks.
Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu said the ongoing operations demonstrate the Armyโs โunwavering resolve to eliminate terrorist threats and restore lasting peace across all regions.โ
He added that troops remain committed to defending Nigeriaโs territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
